Mar 31, 2021

Surrounded by beautiful beaches, perfect weather, and exceptional dining & entertainment options, there’s not much we’re missing out on here at Monarc. But sometimes the need for adventure calls anyway, and in that case, we’re lucky that there are a number of incredible easy day trips to take from Miami. Whether looking for a nature-filled escape, exciting new restaurants, or unparalleled shopping, these spots have it all. Read ahead to learn more about our 5 favorite spring day trips from downtown Miami!

Islamorada, FL

To experience the Florida Keys without heading all the way to Key West, check out the equally stunning Islamorada. Found about 90-minutes south of Miami Beach, between the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park and the blue depths of the Florida Strait, Islamorada is home to six of the Florida Keys. A village of islands, you’ll find tons of ways to explore the beauty of the surrounding area, from dolphin encounters at the Theater of the Sea, to the cool exhibits at the History of Diving Museum, to ruins from the 1800s that can be found at Indian Key Historic State Park. After a day filled with activities, head to classic restaurant Pierre’s for fantastic seafood and outstanding views overlooking the Florida Bay.

Everglades National Park

One of the country’s most famous national parks, the Everglades are less than an hour away from Monarc. Here visitors get to see an abundance of South Florida wildlife, with hundreds of species of plants and animals populating the famed wetlands. There are many ways to experience the sights of the park, including tours by boat, bike, or tram. When you’ve gotten your nature-fill, relax with a visit to Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery. The southernmost winery in the US, Schnebly features a variety of unique wines made by exotic tropical fruit. If you get hungry, head to low-key local favorite City Seafood for wonderfully fresh seafood and stone crabs with waterfront views.

Homestead, FL

A nearby suburb only 30-minutes outside of Miami, Homestead is nestled between the Everglades and Biscayne National Park. In addition to an abundance of area wildlife, Homestead is home to the intriguing Coral Castle Museum. Built in 1923 by Ed Leedskalnin, there is continued mystery surrounding one man’s ability to erect the awe-inspiring stone structures found here. A visit to the tropical botanic gardens of Redland Fruit & Spice Park is another must-do activity in Homestead. After scoping out the many types of fruits, vegetables, spices, and other tropical wonders growing in this oasis, grab a bite to eat at the park’s quaint and charming Mango Café.

Bimini, Bahamas

When you need to feel truly transported, Bimini is the closest point in the Bahamas to the US (only 48 nautical miles from Florida’s eastern coast) and is easily accessible from downtown Miami via shuttle ferry service. After arriving on the pristine, white sand beaches of Bimini, get started exploring all this tropical paradise has to offer. Feeling particularly adventurous? As the world’s third largest barrier reef, a diving excursion will take you through shipwrecks, caves, blue holes, and up-close encounters with sharks and other fascinating sea life. Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch at local gem Stuarts Conch Salad Stand, then toast to a perfect day at beach side dive bar Island House. Naples, FL

On the gulf of Mexico in southwest Florida, Naples is about a 2-hour drive from downtown Miami. Head here for mellow beach vibes and plenty of high-end shopping, cultural institutions & great restaurants. Peruse Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South for trendy clothing boutiques, art galleries, and home decor shops. A visit to the Naples Botanical Garden never fails to delight. Finish with a toast and watching the sunset on the gulf at the iconic Sunset Beach Bar & Grill at the Naples Beach hotel.
