How to Have the Best Miami Staycation

Jan 11, 2021

As we head deeper into the new year, many of us might be craving a bit of a getaway by now. Though making safe travel plans remains difficult with the challenges posed by the coronavirus, fortunately there’s still plenty of ways to plan a mini-escape right here in Miami. This week we’re sharing our guide to having the best staycation imaginable--no planes required! Read ahead for our tips for enjoying all our incredible South Florida location has to offer!

Visit an Art Museum

It’s easy to forget about our access to world class museums when caught up in the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. A staycation is a good time to carve out a visit to one of these gems, like the Pérez Art Museum Miami right here in downtown. PAMM features an excellent collection of modern and contemporary art. Entry to PAMM is timed to space museum guests out and comply with covid safety regulations, so you’ll want to reserve tickets and plan your visit beforehand here.

Check Into a Hotel (Bar)

Missing the opportunity to travel and experience all the thrills of a new city? Enjoy a mini getaway by meeting for a drink at one of Miami’s fabulous hotel bars. The Broken Shaker at The Freehand Hotel is the perfect spot to sip specialty beverages while lounging in their fabulous backyard oasis. The vibes and setting create that special vacation feel without ever needing to leave Miami.

Enjoy Dining Out

Miami’s restaurant scene truly has something for everyone, and a staycation is a great time to treat yourself to some of these terrific spots! Brickell newcomer Osaka Cocina Nikkei is just the place to start. The Peruvian-inspired hotspot features fresh seafood, sushi rolls, and robata-grilled meats in a seductively cool atmosphere. Take a Trip to Wynwood Walls

To see what’s on the cutting edge of contemporary street art, plan a trip to Miami’s Wynwood Walls. Recently reopened, Wynwood invites visitors to explore their open-air collection of murals and sculptures, all created by world-class artists. They are now using timed ticketing to ensure visitor safety, so be sure to reserve your ticket ahead of time here.

Plan a Beach Day

One of the best things about a staycation is the opportunity to be a tourist in your own city for the day. With fewer travelers visiting at the moment, it’s an especially opportune time to hit the beach. Check out the beaches at Crandon Park or Bill Baggs, both on nearby Biscayne Bay, for a quiet patch of sand slightly further away from the typical hot spots. Spread out your towel and enjoy soaking in all the goodness that comes with living right here in our very own tropical paradise!
