Halloween at Home

Oct 25, 2020

Halloween is just around the corner, and here at Monarc we’re excited about all the fun that comes along with the holiday! We know this Halloween may look a little different than years past, but we promise there’s still plenty of spooktacular good times to be had. So, even if trick-or-treating or a haunted house visit might not be on the agenda this year, we’ve rounded up some of the best ways to still have a boo-tiful Halloween from home!

Going Ghosting

Don’t run away in fear...we promise this one has nothing to do with “forgetting” to text someone back! Going ghosting is Good Housekeeping’s suggestion for a socially distanced version of trick-or-treating. Just leave a bag of Halloween goodies at a neighbor’s door with a note to do the same for the next person. It’s a way to spread a little holiday cheer while keeping everyone safe.

Scary Movie Marathon

Grab a bowl of popcorn and gather around the TV to watch some of the season’s best spooky movies. Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween is playing holiday-themed classics--like Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, and The Addams Family--all month long. See the full lineup here. If you’re looking for a movie the whole family can enjoy, check out Rotten Tomatoes’ list of 36 Essential Kids Halloween Movies.

Virtual Costume Party

Hosting a virtual costume party is a great way to get everyone excited about dressing up, even if you’re skipping the in-person gatherings this year. Year-round Halloween blog Spooky Little Halloween has some awesome costume ideas, from looks you can pull together from your closet to great last minute options. You can even send along this recipe for Pumpkin Cookies for a Halloween treat everyone can enjoy together virtually.

Cheers to Halloween Cocktails

For a little Halloween Happy Hour fun, try one of these special seasonal cocktails from Delish. The Zombie Cocktail, with rum and apricot liqueur, is a popular favorite created by the mixologists at NYC's Jekyll and Hyde Club. For a drink that’s like a delicious alcoholic dessert, check out this Boozy Screamsicle Shake recipe--the sherbert and Orea drink would be equally yummy sans vodka.

Pumpkin Decorating

If you’re decorating pumpkins this year, but hoping to skip the mess of carving, there are a ton of cool ideas out there for a twist on the classic Halloween decor. For an easy yet elegant design, try this Black Widow look from Woman’s Day using sequins and permanent adhesive. Or, mix it up by painting your pumpkins this year. You can even use some black paint and grab some chalk for the chalkboard version of this year’s Jack-O-Lantern.
