Doing Good, Feeling Good in 2021

Jan 4, 2021

2021 is already off to a great start at Monarc, with members of our community finding so many ways to meet new year’s goals right here at home! Fortunately, to keep the “New Year, New Me” momentum going, there are tons of additional opportunities for ensuring continued wellbeing in our day-to-day lives. Whether it’s through volunteering to help local organizations or creating new personal habits to inspire your best year yet, read ahead for our tips for doing good and feeling good well into 2021!

Become a Volunteer

Looking for opportunities to give back to our community? Become a volunteer with Lotus House, an organization committed to improving the lives of homeless women, youth, and children in Miami. Lotus House provides shelter, food, education, and healthcare for those in need. Volunteers can assist in a number of ways, such as helping kids with virtual school assignments, college prep, sponsoring a meal, or hosting an activity. Find more information on volunteering with Lotus House here.

Donate to Our Community

Short on time but still want to find a way to contribute? There are many organizations in Miami seeking donation based assistance. The Underline--one of our favorite new urban trails in downtown Miami--is undergoing large-scale renovations you can help support with donations here. Or, for a more pressing concern, help fight food insecurity in our area with Feeding South Florida. The organization works to provide food and resources to end the cycle of hunger and poverty in our community. Find more information on getting involved and donating here.

Shop Local to Support New Hobbies

Pledging to read more in 2021? Consider purchasing books from small locally-owned businesses to help support our city’s economy! Miami independent bookseller Books & Books has a great collection you can browse online and arrange for in-store pickup. The store also hosts a series of virtual author chats, all of which are excellent for getting excited about reading throughout the new year. Find more info here.

Inspire Personal Productivity

If you’re working from home more, learning to manage time efficiently outside of the normal work day setting can be challenging. The good news is, there are so many great tools to help with productivity in 2021! Using a time tracking app like Harvest is great for staying on target, particularly when hours worked are directly connected to income. Find more info and check out a free 30-day trial of the app here. Prefer a slightly more old-fashioned approach? A good ‘ole pen and paper is all you need for a tried and true productivity technique like the Bullet Journal Method. The Bullet Journal method will help with staying organized and efficient, and they even have an app to pair with the journal if the digital approach is more your speed.

Get Organized at Home

The start of a new year is the ideal time to refresh our spaces and get organized at home. While this may seem like an overwhelming task, it’s made much easier by focusing on one area of the home at a time. Targeting something specific, like decluttering piles of excess paperwork, can be a great way to get started. Uncluttered Simplicity offers 4 easy steps for getting paperwork in order. Start by gathering all paperwork together and dividing into piles of “keep,” “toss,” or “shred.” Finish up by creating a filing system for the remaining documents. Find more tips for getting organized at home here.
