Be a Good Neighbor at Monarc

May 15, 2020

The past few months have been a major adjustment for everyone at Monarc. We’re spending more time at home than we ever have before and with new routines comes new behaviors and norms throughout our building. We put together a list of ways we can all be more sensitive and helpful to our neighbors during this time. Share with us ways you’re helping a fellow Monarc resident on social media by using the hashtag #YourMonarcNeighbor.

1. Help Your At-Risk Neighbors

For many of us, our daily routines have been disrupted and we’ve had to take extra precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones from COVID-19. However, for some of our neighbors like the elderly and immunocompromised, COVID-19 is particularly life-threatening. Thus these neighbors have difficulty food shopping, doing their laundry and running to CVS for common household items. Consider offering help to these neighbors by buying their groceries or doing a load of laundry for them. This will bring ease to an otherwise stressful event and it will be much appreciated.

2. Wear Protective Gear in the Building & Neighborhood

The CDC recommends wearing a mask when in public. These masks don’t need to be fancy - using a bandana or scarf is perfectly suitable. Check out the CDC’s mask recommendations here. If you own gloves, wearing them when you are out & about can help lessen the spread of the virus as well.

3. Practice Good Elevator Etiquette

No one wants to be in a crowded elevator. We ask that residents continue to respect the three person rule (excluding families with small children); If there are three people in the elevator, please wait for the next one.

4. Keep Noise Levels Down

We are all for enjoying music, movies and a workout or two in the comfort of our home. But we do ask that we’re courteous of the noise we are making in regards to the neighbors next to us and below us. Try to be light in your step in your workouts and practice them at normal hours. With your entertainment, be aware of the volume level.

5. Stock Up Responsibly

One way we can all be better neighbors is by being courteous of how much we’re buying at our local Whole Foods and convenience stores. Hoarding food and essential items at this time makes it difficult for our neighbors to buy what they need. Please only buy items that you predict you’ll need for a short period of time.

6. Support Local Monarc Businesses

All Miami non-essential businesses were forced to close their doors in accordance with our local and state governments. However, many restaurants are still open for delivery and take-out. Consider supporting your local restaurants so that they’ll be ready for business once the stay at home order has been lifted.

7. Be Cognizant of Balcony Etiquette

Please do not wash your balconies or allow water or debris to fall off your balconies; this creates unsanitary conditions, damage to property, and a nuisance to your neighbors below.

8. Be Kind, Thoughtful & Patient with One Another

Lastly, this is a tense time for all of us. There are so many things that are still unknown about the virus, about future timelines for school and work, as well as what our world will look like tomorrow. We ask that all Monarc neighbors are kind, thoughtful and patient with one another while we all get through this. Give a neighbor a wave when passing. Stay in touch on social media. Be thoughtful in common spaces, and support one another as best you can. We’ll all get through this - together.
